Creston Community Band

We are Creston's premiere concert and dance band. We serve the community and provide a musical, educational and social outlet for Creston's amateur woodwind, brass and percussion players.

Support . . .

We are supported by the Town Of Creston with the donation of practice and storage facilities in the Creston Public Library and by an annual grant from the Creston Arts Council.

Membership . . .

The Band always welcomes new members. There are no fees. The only requirements are your own instrument, some previous band experience, ability to read music, and a willingness to have fun. Our current membership consists of 10 dedicated musicians.

Rehearsals . . .

Practices are every Monday evening from 7:00-9:00pm at the Creston Public Library. New members are encouraged to drop in... but, since we've been known to use alternate facilities, do call a member first to make sure you don't end up in a quiet place!

Contacts . . .

President Alan Burt Phone (250) 424-5403
Sec/Treasurer Diane Blow Phone (250) 428-2449

Our Music Library . . .

We have about 1000 charts in our library. The entire listing is on this page. The page is over 200,000 bytes long, so do give it a minute or so to load and display. Please note this music is for our members, it's not a lending library.

Performances . . .

We perform at a variety of community events each year. This usually includes the spring Variety Show, the Fall Fair, and various Christmas concerts.

Band Workshop 1999 . . .

In June/1999 we hosted the first ever Creston Concert Band Workshop. It was great day! If you have nothing better to do with your time, you should read the full report.

A second workshop was help in Trail in the spring of 2000. To find out about that warp your browser to http://www.trailnet.bc.ca/~rlop/concertband.html.

History 101 . . .

Amateur bands have a long history in the Kootenays. We don't have a lot of information right now on bands which have come and gone over the years, but if you have some interesting information let a band member know and we'll get it up here. For now, we have the following items:

  • Two photographs of the original Creston Band (black and white, appx. 48K each). It appears that these were taken around 1920. More information would be appreciated.

Interesting Links . . .

  • Ever wonder about the accoustics of a woodwind instrument? Even if you haven't you should look at http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/music/. A bit of reading here and you'll be the hit of the next party with all your interesting knowledge!
  • Just because it is so completely different, I highly recommend a trip to Contrabass Mania.
