Creston
View looking west into Creston

If you arrive in Creston from the east.... via Yahk, Cranbrook on the Crowsnest Highway (.hwy 3 ) this is the first view of mainstreet (Canyon Street) that you will see.
Continuing on this highway will give you three choices..
- Highway 21 will take you south to Idaho, only 7 miles.
- Highway 3 will keep you heading west towards the coast and over the Creston-Salmo summit... one of the highest mountain passes in Canada and definitely worth a trip. The next towns will be Salmo, and Castlegar.
- Highway 3A... Now you have a problem! Which way to take? The scenic hwy 3 over the summit? or the the beautiful but casual trip up highway 3A alongside Kootenay Lake and then across it on the longest free ferry ride in Canada? Decisions, Decisions! The best plan... take 3A up the lake, over the ferry to the unique city of Nelson, then back to Creston over the Creston-Salmo summit!
