ABOUT US

In 1983, in British Columbia’s Creston Valley, three ladies had a dream: to collect food from local farmers and share it with families in need. Gleaners started as a humble food bank. As people donated clothing and household items and sought our help, we expanded our services.

We are like an old-fashioned general store and community yard sale. Come and see who is here…
bullet a handyman in a ball cap sorting through sink taps
bullet a home-schooled girl in a long skirt browsing through the novels
bullet a daycare worker sorting through a crib full of stuffed toys
bullet an air cadet picking up electronic parts for his robot project
bullet an elderly lady encouraging her friend to try on a fancy outfit
bullet a retired nurse picking up yarn to make potholders as a hospital fundraiser
bullet a visitor from a nearby village, collecting supplies to restore a burned-out home
bullet the mother of a blind child finding Braille magnetic letters she could never afford.

Over the past 24 years, we have survived two fires, a flood and seven relocations. We built a new facility in 2000. We are now a provincially-registered society. With time, we’ve become more resilient, and determined to help make our community a better place for all of us.
